Snapd - Local Privilege Escalation (CVE-2026-3888)

Eduardo Barretto alerts us to Qualys discovering a vulnerability in snapd that allows attackers to “escalate privileges” (CVE-2026-3888). We’re told that it impacts Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and Ubuntu 25.10, but that the older releases have been hardened too as non-default configurations may have been vulnerable to the flaw. Package versions with fixes are given to us, as well as instructions on addressing or mitigating the flaw manually. Eduardo thanks Qualys, providing references so we can learn more too.

What do you need from Mir in 26.10 or beyond?

Michał Sawicz asks us to think about what is missing in Mir, or Mir-based sessions. The new cycle is coming up fast, and he asks for user’s input. We’re reminded requested items may not make it into 26.10, but all requests are welcome for the ‘current and future roadmaps’.

Retiring the ISO Tracker! Introducing tests.ubuntu.com for 26.04 LTS

Matthieu Clemenceau reminds us that the ISO Tracker was being retired (UWN issue 914) and covers much of what has transpired since then in exploring replacement trackers. We’re then talked through progress to the new tests.ubuntu.com tracker using a Test Observer tool. This post briefs us on using the new tool, including details on where to find manual testing instructions and more. We’re told some flavor respin work is still to be completed.

New Ubuntu release notes

Marek Suchánek informs us that Ubuntu Release notes are changing in presentation. We’re told that Discourse will no longer be used with newer documentation tools to be used for future releases. We’re told the reasons for this decision, and given examples of problems encountered with Discourse, and its limited markdown. Coverage is then given to the improvements that will occur with the new release notes, before ending with the appraisal that all prior release notes may find themselves available using the new tools. A call for feedback is made, we’re told how to file an issue to get submissions into the release notes, and more in this extensive post.
