Ubuntu 25.10 Summit Extended – Uyo Edition

Bright Adams (mrbite) writes that the Ubuntu 25.10 Summit Extended (Uyo) was an ‘incredible success’. We’re told it was attended by over 40 developers and enthusiasts, and reminded it celebrated the release of Ubuntu 25.10, strengthening the ‘growing Ubuntu community in Nigeria’. Along with some photos, we’re told a little of this event.

OpenPrinting News - Sovereign Tech Agency is investing in OpenPrinting

Till Kamppeter reminds us that he was ‘laid off’ by Canonical earlier this year after nearly 20 years of employment. Till’s post then moves to his ‘looking for a new solution’. We’re walked through to the Sovereign Tech Agency (STA) accepting to invest in OpenPrinting at the same monthly compensation as Canonical provided until end 2026. We’re given details, including that OpenPrinting is a sub-organization of the Linux Foundation, with Till giving thanks to numerous people.

Ubuntu Summit 25.10: Personal Highlights

Jon Seager writes about attending Ubuntu Summit 25.10, mentioning briefly the history, and the new format of this event. The bulk of this post is Jon highlighting his favourite talks, including links so we can (re-)watch both days too. This is a somewhat extensive post, with honorable mentions of other talks too, before thanking Utkarsh Gupta for his presentation. Finally a conclusion that “the Ubuntu Summit 25.10 a really enjoyable event” with talks “high in quality, charisma and creativity”.

Snap out of it: Canonical on Flatpak friction, Core Desktop, and the future of Ubuntu

Liam Proven had a discussion with Jon Seager (Canonical’s VP of Engineering) at the Ubuntu Summit 25.10, with this post a “heavily condensed version”. This an extensive and somewhat technical discussion covering a number of topics with a focus firstly on Ubuntu Desktop in the next 5-10 years. Discussion also includes confinement, TPM FDE, PipeWire as a snap, testing Flatpak in future releases, and more.

How to Enable amd64v3 Packages on Ubuntu 25.10

Joey Sneddon tells us that “Ubuntu’s new amd64v3” code will “squeeze a bit more performance out of Ubuntu 25.10”. We’re firstly told how we can check to ensure our systems can use this code, with the advisory that only packages in the ‘main’ repository have amd64v3 builds. If we decide to use it Joey gives us a guide on how we do this. We’re also told how to revert it, as well as given some discussion on how it will appear (all repositories but still optional) in Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. Joey finally gives a warning as it’s still experimental in Ubuntu 25.10.
